How To Reduce Your Carbon Footprint With New Windows
Climate change is a pressing issue that affects everyone. The fact of the matter is, we all play a role and we all could be doing more to reduce our carbon footprint. One way we can do this is by making sustainable choices for our homes; which includes choosing more energy-efficient windows. A new set of windows will have many benefits. Not only will they enhance the look and feel of your home, but they can also help reduce your carbon footprint in several ways.
Here are a few tips on how you can reduce your carbon footprint with new windows:
Firstly, what is a carbon footprint?
A carbon footprint is the measure of the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses emitted into the atmosphere as a result of an individual’s or organisation’s activities. The idea behind a carbon footprint is to raise awareness of the impact human activities have on the environment. It also encourages those with particularly large carbon footprints to take action to mitigate climate change. Reducing your carbon footprint can help to slow down global warming and improve the health of the planet.
Why choose energy-efficient windows?
An energy-efficient window can help reduce your carbon footprint by reducing your heating and cooling bills. They are designed to keep in heat inside during winter and keep the heat out during summer. This ensures you have a comfortable temperature all year round and reduces the amount of energy you use. Here at SCI Windows, we incorporate the very latest glazing technology and PlatinumNRG double-glazed PVCu casement windows to achieve the ‘greenest’ rating of A+9 for energy efficiency. Additionally, All of our products are manufactured here in Britain, so you can rest assured that we are not transporting from across the world and are working with local suppliers and specialists in the UK home-improvement market. When you work with us you will be actively helping to save energy and the planet.
Double or triple glazing?
Choose between Double and triple glazing which are both great ways to improve the energy efficiency of your windows. There’s a noticeable difference between homes that have PVCu windows and those that do not. This is the case, particularly when looking at their energy bill. If you live or have been in a home with single-glazed windows you’ll often find that the building often loses heat quickly and struggles to hold it. This means that it can take a while to get to a comfortable temperature, due to draughts from your windows allowing warm air to escape from your home.
Double-glazed windows work by having two panes of glass with a layer of argon gas separating the two. Argon is an excellent choice in this scenario as it is a poor conductor of heat. This means the warm air doesn’t get transferred out of the home. Additionally, the extra pane of glass then acts as a sound barrier, so it reduces the amount of noise that comes into your home or escapes from it. Triple-glazed windows work under the same principle as double-glazed. They simply have an additional layer of argon and another pane of glass.
Materials
The type of material used to make the frame of your window has an impact on your carbon footprint. Choosing materials for your frame that have a low environmental impact will reduce the number of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere because of your actions. At SCI Windows we understand the importance of giving people the option to make an environmentally ‘green’ choice. Which is why all our PVCu windows are recyclable and 100% Lead and Calcium Zinc free. Additionally, our state-of-the-art, intelligent design uses 50% less steel than competitors. Furthermore, we also offer aluminium windows, which are 100% recyclable and can be reused over and over again, without a drop in quality. Read why aluminium windows are also better for the envirnment.
As a business, we care about the environment and we always do our best to make sustainable choices. This is the reason why all our recycling is done in the UK. We always try to find new, innovative ways to reduce our carbon footprint further.
By making these changes, you’ll be making a positive impact on the environment while also improving the comfort and energy efficiency of your home. With new windows, you can reduce your carbon footprint and help protect the planet for future generations.
