Signs You Might Need New Patio Doors
During the Summer months, you may have looked at your patio doors and noticed they’re not looking as great as they used to. You might then be thinking about whether it’s necessary to get new patio doors for your home.
If you’ve had your patio doors for a number of years; there are a few things you should look out for to make sure they are still doing the job properly. We’ve put together a short guide on how to tell if you might need new patio doors.
The Patio Door is ‘Sticky’, or Difficult to Open
After a while, the exposure to hot and cold temperatures means that the patio door and the frame it sits in are likely to have expanded and contracted frequently. Particularly on older doors, this means that the door will no longer fit perfectly against the frame as it should.
As a result of this, you might find that your door is tricky to open or shut. If you have a sliding patio door, it might become tricky sliding the door on its rollers. You may also find that the door makes more noise when you slide it open.
Broken Seals on Patio Doors
If you take a look at the edge of the door and the door frame, you should see a black strip of rubber tubing which helps to seal the door shut.
These seals also help to keep the rain and cold out. Therefore, if any of these seals are broken, missing or perished; they won’t be doing a very good job at protecting you from the elements.
Condensation on Patio Door Glass
If you have an old double-glazed patio door, you might find condensation sits in between the two sheets of glass. This is a sign that the seal around the window has broken. Having a broken seal on patio doors voids the insulating benefits of a double or triple-glazed window. This is a clear sign you should consider getting a replacement patio door.
Broken Parts of the Door or Glass
If you have cracked glass panes or broken bits of plastic on your patio door, it’s an obvious sign that you might need to find a replacement. This could also mean that your door isn’t as secure and safe as it should be. So if you have any broken parts of your patio door; it would be a good idea to start thinking about getting a replacement fitted.
A New Style Perhaps?
If you have enjoyed having sliding patio doors for many years, you may actually like the idea of having a change. French Doors give you the option of opening up the whole space you have, rather than there always being a pane of glass in the way. French doors look stylish and in keeping with many properties. Then you also have the option of bi-fold doors. With these, you can really open up your space, creating a very contemporary indoor/outdoor feel to your property. There is always one available door that you can use, but with bi-folds you can also slide them right back to create a large and spacious opening to the rear of your property.
